Despite some big rumours about the future of the show, Sex Education season four has officially announced that it will return for season four this year!
The cast list for season four is now up, but it’s not yet clear when the new series will arrive on Netflix. The company did confirm the series’ return on Twitter, posting a news reel-style video with “Breaking news: Sex Education will return for season 4″ written in a banner at the bottom.
The ‘untouchables’ of Moordale Secondary School are about to get some major drama in the fourth run of their hit series. During the show’s third season, the students and staff found out that their school was being sold to developers, which meant the entire campus would have to be shut down – a huge cliffhanger that will likely dominate the plot of the new series.
A cast of new characters is set to join the mix in season four, too! According to Deadline, Emmy-winning star Dan Levy (Schitt’s Creek) is joining the cast, while Thaddea Graham, who recently played the lead in Doctor will also appear. Other new faces are joining the show as well, including Felix Mufti, Anthony Lexa, Alexandra James and Imani Yahshua. The additions are sure to add some more drama and we’re especially looking forward to seeing more awkwardness from the likes of Levy’s eyebrows.
Gillian Anderson is returning for season four, too. The Royal-born actress will reprise her role as sex therapist Jean Milburn, while Ncuti Gatwa will be back as Otis’s larger-than-life best mate Eric Effiong. Emma Mackey is also returning to the show, but that may not last for long, she’s currently filming alongside Margot Robbie in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie movie. It’s hard to imagine that Mackey has time to commit to the series if she’s constantly working on other projects, but it sounds as though she’ll be back for some more episodes, as she’s clearly still interested in continuing her role.
We’ll see more of Otis and Maeve in the next series, too. We know from the season three finale that the pair are in love and planning to move to the US together. However, they’ll have to work out how to survive without each other. Other cast members who will be missing from the show in season 4 include Tanya Reynolds (Lily Iglehart), Patricia Allison (Ola Nyma) and Rakhee Thakrar (Miss Sands). These stars confirmed their departures ahead of the new season, and it’s a shame that these big names have to leave so soon after the series has been renewed for a fourth run.
In other news, Bridgerton’s Simone Ashley has reportedly swapped modern-day high school for Regency high society for good. Hopefully she’ll still be in touch with the Sex Education cast, because it’s definitely worth keeping tabs on her upcoming appearances!
