Coronation Street cast pay tribute to Martyn Hett and the Manchester attack victims as the memorial garden opens

The team at Coronation Street have spoken out to pay tribute to superfan Martyn Hett and the 21 others who lost their lives in the Manchester Arena attack at an Ariana Grande concert last year. As part of the soap’s brand new Victoria Street set, a memorial garden has been opened which includes a bench with a memorial plaque.

The bench has images of bees to represent the Manchester spirit and the show’s solidarity with the city and it includes 22 flowers, with each representing one of the victims in the tragedy. were on set with the cast as they explored the new set with us, which includes a tram station, a police station, a tattoo parlour, a restaurant and a snooker hall.

When talk turned to how important the garden was for Coronation Street and Manchester as a whole, cast members including Lucy Fallon (Bethany Platt), Colson Smith (Craig Tinker), Nicola Thorp (Nicola Rubinstein), Tina O’Brien (Sarah Platt), Jack P Shepherd (David Platt) and Julia Goulding (Shona Ramsey) discussed their feelings around it.

As well as that, show producer Kate Oates discussed the team’s decision to commemorate the victims in this way and added that it was ‘impossible to overstate’ the importance of the memorial garden.
