Union J’s JJ Hamblett reckons he has got his work cut out for him as he tries to launch an acting career with new thriller Tango One.

Best known for singing pop hits like Carry You and Tonight (We Live Forever), JJ is giving his image a makeover with the crime drama.

But he reckons his X Factor routes might make it harder for him to be taken seriously as an actor.

He told Metro.co.uk: ‘That’s what I always say. A lot of people say, “leave acting to the actors and singing to the singers”.

‘It’s very difficult to cross over. Especially coming from a boyband. Getting to play an Mi5 agent in my first role will hopefully show a different side to me.’

‘I’ve always loved acting and that’s what I’ve always aspired to be, an actor. It’s totally different from being on stage but I was doing it a little bit before.

‘This is my first major project and hopefully I can pull it off. Hopefully I will have a career in acting, that’s the plan.’

JJ plays an MI5 agent called Parker in the flick and stars opposite The Royals star Vincent Regan.

The trailer, filled with gun shots and funny accents, looks like a wild ride for those who watch.

JJ, 29, now has his sights set on other acting roles – and is hoping that one day he can appear in Game of Thrones.

He said: ‘I suppose Game of Thrones would be the one. Probably everyone would say the same thing. I love dramas, that’s the thing. I love TV dramas.

‘I would love to have a go at something like that, a big American TV show would be amazing. Hopefully one day I can get into one of them.’

Union J, who released their most recent album, You Got It All – The Album, are planning on releasing new music this summer.

JJ’s former bandmate George Shelley’s fame was elevated to new levels after he took part on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here and JJ is hoping to follow suit.

He said: ‘I’d love to do Strictly, although I’m a really bad dancer. I’m A Celebrity, I’d be awful on it because I’d be scared of everything but it would be funny.

‘I always like to challenge myself. I’d love to do I’m A Celeb, maybe this year or next year I can do one of the shows. I’d get to go to Australia and get away for a few weeks, that would be nice.’

While The X Factor created successful artists like One Direction and Little Mix, it’s also had it’s fair share of joke acts over the years.

But JJ will defend the series no matter what anyone says.

He said: ‘We wouldn’t be here without The X Factor. It gets a lot of stick, it gets slated a lot.

‘But look at the acts, it made one of the biggest boybands ever, One Direction. It made James Arthur, Little Mix, one of the biggest girlbands ever.

‘It teaches you what the music industry is like and how harsh it can be and how hard it can be. I would advice anyone if they get the chance to go on The X Factor or The Voice.

‘It’s difficult without a show like that because it’s such a tough industry and there’s so many talented people, it gives you that little bit of exposure.’

Tango One is available on digital download 5 March and on DVD 19 March.
