Thanks to the Hollywood success of The Disaster Artist, Tommy Wiseau is back in the spotlight.
So what better time to release his new film and reunite with his best bud Greg Sestero?
In news that will delight The Room fans and terrify/intrigue others, the trailer for Tommy and Greg’s new film has dropped.
The Room co-stars have reunited for the film Best F(r)iends, which will be released in two volumes a la Kill Bill. Because with a Tommy Wiseau film, things are never straightforward.
The blurb for the film goes like this: ‘When a drifter (Greg Sestero) is taken in by a peculiar mortician (Tommy Wiseau), the two hatch an underground enterprise off the back of the mortician’s old habits.
‘But greed, hatred, and jealousy soon come in turn, and their efforts unravel, causing the drifter to run off with the spoils and leaving the mortician adrift. An expedition across the South West introduces wild and crazy characters through a series of twisted and dark foibles as both men learn a valuable lesson about friendship and loyalty.’
The trailer doesn’t give much away when it comes to a plot, although we know there’s something about an ATM, a dead clown and lots of guns.
Tommy doesn’t actually have anything to do with the script (which could be a good or bad thing, depending on your stance) – Greg wrote it based on one of his and Tommy’s road trips after feeling sympathetic towards his friend after seeing an early cut of The Disaster Artist.
Sestero told Entertainment Weekly: ‘Just imagine a Hitchcock film setting starring Tommy.’
Tommy and Greg first collaborated in 2003’s The Room, which has come to be known as the best bad movie ever.
Despite a critical mauling upon its release, The Room – written by and starring Wiseau – has become a cult favourite, being shown at midnight screenings across the world.
And the story of Wiseau’s pet project has become an awards season highlight, with James Franco playing the actor/director in The Disaster Artist.
Franco won the Critics’ Choice Award and Golden Globe for Best Actor In A Comedy for his portrayal of Wiseau.
Best F(r)iends Volume 1 is out on 30 March, with the second volume due out in June.
