Veteran rockers Queen have announced a further set of live dates ‘while we’re physically able to perform’.

The band have just finished a large stadium tour, which culminated in two shows at the 02 in December, and the wild success of those led to the new additions.

Guitarist Brian May has described 2018’s dates as ‘once more around the block’ for the band, who were at the peak of their fame in the 1980s when fronted by Freddie Mercury, who passed away from AIDS/HIV in 1991.

Adam Lambert has since assumed Freddie’s role as front man of the band.

Queen and Adam Lambert will play London’s The 02 on 2 July, and dates in Italy and Germany will follow alongside further shows in Portugal, Spain, Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands and Belgium.

20 June, Hamburg, Germany, Barclaycard Arena
25 June, Milan, Italy, Forum
2 July, London, The O2

Queen’s Brian May explained: ‘The almost unanimous reaction to our last round of dates in Europe was this is absolutely the best production we’ve ever mounted. There has been a great demand for us to go back and cover the cities we missed!

‘So, while we’re still physically able to perform at those high energy levels on this massive scale, we thought … “YES !! One more around the block!” It’s live, it’s dangerous, and it takes every ounce of fitness we can muster. But it’s still fun!’

Lambert added: ‘I enjoyed every second of the recent European tour and really felt the love in every city. I can’t wait for us to get back there again in the spring!’

Part of what makes the shows spectacular is their innovative use of lighting. 300 moving lights choreographed by Rob Sinclair (who designs shows for Adele and Kylie) are combined with lasers by ER Productions, who have the opening and closing UK Olympics ceremonies on their CV.

Tickets for the shows go on sale on Friday 9 February from 9am.
