Janet Jackson has confirmed she will not be performing at the Super Bowl halftime show with Justin Timberlake.
Yep, our dreams have been dashed.
Ever since Justin Timberlake was announced as the Super Bowl LII headliner, fans were hopeful that the Cry Me A River singer would bring Janet out as a guest, bringing the Nipplegate scandal of 2004 to a close.
But nope – Miss Jackson will not be in Minneapolis.
The 51-year-old told TMZ: ‘To put to rest any speculation or rumors as to whether I will be performing at the Super Bowl tomorrow: I will not.
‘Thank you for your support and I do look forward to seeing you all very soon.’
It is unknown whether Janet was asked to perform as a guest or not.
Janet’s career was derailed after her headlining spot at Super Bowl XXXVIII following her ‘wardrobe malfunction’ during the show.
The legendary diva invited Timberlake on as a guest to perform his song Rock Your Body.
When Justin sang ‘bet I have you naked by the end of this song’, he was supposed to rip off the front of her bustier – however, he tore off Janet’s bra as well, exposing her breast, which was adorned with nipple jewellery.
The incident outraged the world, and Janet’s career suffered – however, Justin’s remained fairly untouched, with the former N*SYNC star becoming one of music’s most successful male soloists.
More: Justin Timberlake
Justin recently claimed that he and Janet made peace over the ‘wardrobe malfunction’, although Janet has yet to speak out on his comments.
The Cry Me A River singer is expected to have a Prince hologram during his half-time performance, as the Super Bowl is taking place in the Purple One’s hometown of Minneapolis.
And contrary to the rumours, Justin’s N*SYNC bandmates won’t be making an appearance either.
