It’s not even February yet (yes, somehow it is still January) but we reckon no other red carpet in 2018 will top that of the Black Panther premiere.
The premiere for the eagerly anticipated Marvel blockbuster took place last night in Los Angeles, and we are absolutely living for the pictures.
Early reviews of the movie have called it ‘100% African and dope AF’, and that was the dress code, as many of the premiere’s attendees adhered to the ‘African royalty’ dress code of the night.
Daniel Kaluyya, who plays W’Kabi in the superhero film, was dressed in a kanzu – a long linen robe worn by East African men – beneath a burgundy velvet blazer.
The film’s star Chadwick Boseman, who plays T’Challa aka Black Panther himself, wore a patterened black gold and purple silk dress shirt; while David Oyelowo opted for a traditional African tunic and patterned trousers.
Lupita Nyong’o, who plays Nakia, looked regal in a purple gown featuring an incredible gold harness which started in a collar to wrap around her waist.
The actress wore her hair up, and we’re pretty much ready to submit to her as our queen.
Danai Gurira’s stuntwoman Janeshia Adams-Ginyard stole the show in an incredible colourful skirt teamed with a bandeau and a matching hat.
Meanwhile, Danai, who plays Okoye, wore a striking pink and black asymmetric gown with frilled shoulder detailing.
And Janelle Monae wasn’t even subtle about the queen subtext, wearing a crown on her head along with her black gown with exaggerated blue and white sleeves.
Other looks that absolutely slayed us were Angela Bassett’s gold fringed jumpsuit and Issa Rae’s colourful concertina skirt.
More: Lupita Nyong’o
And of course, Black Panther villain Michael B Jordan was dapper as ever in a suit and gold collar clips.
Black Panther is set for release on 13 February.
