It was the morning after the Golden Globes the night before – and so we can forgive Ewan McGregor for making a dash to the shops in his sweatpants.

The British actor, 46, won at the ceremony on Sunday, picking up Best Actor in a Mini Series for his work on Fargo, and was spotted on Monday in the casual trousers, a green parka coat and comfy trainers looking just a little bit tired.

At the ceremony Ewan paid tribute to both his wife Eve Mavrakis and new love Mary Elizabeth Winstead as he picked up the gong, surprising viewers at home.

‘I want to take a moment to just say thank you to Eve, who always stood by me for 22 years,’ he said, ‘and our four children Clara, Esther, Jamyan and Anouk.’

He went on: ‘And there wouldn’t have been any Ray without Mary Elizabeth Winstead.’

Initial rumours of a romance between Ewan and Mary Elizabeth were sparked when they were spotted kissing in a West London cafe last year.

The pair were seen in ‘deep conversation’ for one hour before enjoying a passionate embrace and then leaving on Ewan’s motorbike together. More recently, Mary Elizabeth was spotted with the actor outside his North London home, wearing backpacks after apparently travelling round the Scottish Highlands.

Despite claims of an affair, it was revealed that Ewan and Eve split in May and have been living apart for some time; they met on the set of Kavanagh QC in 1995 and married shortly after, going on to have four daughters together.
