There are testing times ahead for ailing Carla Connor in Coronation Street as the symptoms of her kidney failure overcome her leading to a collapse. And as she is rushed to hospital for an emergency operation, it will remain to be seen whether she can come through this.

Since Carla returned to the Street in the wake of Alison King reprising her role, she has been secretly battling her condition, with Roy Cropper being her only initial confidante. Roy was so determined to help his friend that he even looked into donating his own kidney to save her.

As the weeks go on, Carla will become more ill and a recently released trailer showed her losing consciousness and collapsing to the ground. Afterwards, she was wearing a brave smile as she was wheeled away for her operation and she gave Roy a kiss as her family looked on.

But, with her expression out of the view of her loved ones as she was taken to theater, a look of fear took over Carla’s face as she realised that she might not come out alive.

It remains to be seen whether someone Carla knows can be a donor to her and whether the procedure will be a success but the next couple of months are sure to be dramatic for the fan favourite.

Meanwhile, the trailer also hinted at other big storylines including Phelan’s potential downfall, the reveal of Kate and Rana’s affair, Bethany’s lapdancing job, Eva’s baby dilemma and the wedding of Chesney and Sinead.
